Dr. Zubaida Rahman, wife of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, has said that healthcare is not a privilege but a fundamental right of every individual.

She made the remarks on Tuesday (May 5) at noon during an opinion exchange meeting titled “Implementation of Electoral Commitment for Establishing Equality in Healthcare in Dhaka-17 Constituency” held at Kurmitola General Hospital in the capital.

Dr. Zubaida said that the country’s health sector has long been neglected. Government hospitals are under excessive pressure, and many people are deprived of quality treatment.

Referring to the residents of the Dhaka-17 area, she said that the people of Korail, Bhashantek, and Saat Tola keep the city running. They contribute through their labor in the garment and construction sectors. Yet, they are the ones most deprived of healthcare services. “Our goal is to ensure that people in these areas are no longer deprived of medical treatment,” she added.

Calling on local volunteers to step forward, Dr. Zubaida said that many people still do not know that there is a hospital nearby where they can receive services. “We must reach this information to them. We want no one in this area to be deprived of healthcare anymore,” she said.
