Prime Minister Tareq Rahman has announced that a new initiative called Notun Kuri Sports will be launched, modeled after Notun Kuri, to give sports a more professional structure.

He made this statement to journalists on Thursday (March 26), after a friendly football match organized by the Bangladesh Football Federation at the National Stadium in Dhaka, marking Independence and Victory Day.

Tareq Rahman said, “On behalf of our government, and also during the recent national election in Bangladesh, we stated in our party manifesto that we want to develop new players across various sports in the country. We want to professionalize sports. To achieve this, we have decided to introduce Notun Kuri Sports, inspired by the earlier Notun Kuri program. Not only that, we also have a broader plan. We aim to initiate sports competitions at school and various levels in every district, upazila, and union across Bangladesh.

He added, “We have a goal and we want to make an effort. In the future, we aim to bring more honor to the country in various international sporting arenas and to produce quality athletes. On this Independence Day, let us all make a commitment to work together. We call upon everyone directly and indirectly involved in sports across Bangladesh to help build a vibrant sporting culture, regardless of political differences. Sports can bring honor and foster bonds of friendship.”

The Prime Minister’s daughter, Barrister Zaima Rahman, was present at the event and enjoyed the entire match. Also present were Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Abdul Awal Mintoo, State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, State Minister for Road Transport and Railways Habibur Rashid Habib, State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Islam, Dhaka South City convener Rafiqul Alam Majnu MP, the Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Saleh Shibli, and Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman.
